Kitchen God

Kitchen God, by Lei Xiong, illustrated by Kim Xiong, translated by Clarissa Yu ShenKitchen God book cover

This is a charming story about the kitchen god who watches over the household, told from the point of view of a child in the house.

My older daughter got this book as a birthday present not long after she started taking Chinese lessons. It has been a favorite bedtime story for both of my daughters, who like the child’s eye view and subtle humor, and also the glimpse at a Chinese household. I like the story and the introduction to aspects of Chinese culture that are not usually included in books aimed at adults.
